Knuckles

I hid in the shadows and waited. Riddick said he’d text me as soon as the plan was underway. It all had to go down anonymously. Royal Bastards could not be seen, especially not without being ordered by our President. If Jameson hadn’t killed me before, he was legit going to do it now. I’d be stripped of my colors, thrown out to the gators- I pushed those thoughts to the back of my mind as I gripped the phone in my hand. I kept willing for it to ring. Adrenaline was pumping through my body and I was getting ready to strike at any asshole that appeared.

The phone suddenly lit up and the message was clear.

Move now!

I waited a few minutes and sure enough bikes flew past me, lifting a cloud of dust around me and hiding me from view. I ran up the road and to the back of the house. I slid on my gold brass knuckles and slammed my fist through the window above the lock on the door. I swept in, my boots crunching on the glass strewn across the floor. I lifted my gun and stepped through the first doorway I encountered. A man charged at me from the left. He slammed into me, taking me off guard and sending us both flying onto the hardwood floor.

We struggled for a minute, until I was finally able to make contact with his face. Two sharp punches, one across the temple and he went down instantly. I flung him off me and grabbed my gun up off the floor.

There was a reason for the nickname I was given. I used to box in underground rings where there were no rules. You fought to the death, or at least expected it to knock on your door. My gold brass knuckles saved my life more than once, hence the name.

When I reached the top of the stairs, another man rushed at me, but this time I was prepared. Ducking down as he flew at me. I gave him a slight shove right down the stairs. I winced as I heard his head crunch against wood. I peeked over, getting a glimpse of his lifeless distorted body, strewn at the bottom of the steps.

The rest of the house was silent as I made my way towards her room. I suddenly heard her scream and I ran, slamming my body with full force into the door and breaking it off its hinges. A man stood over her, a knife in his hands, his zipper undone. Dyanara was curled up in the corner of the bedroom, a look of pure terror in her eyes. She was hurt. Blood matted her hair to her forehead, a cut ripped her cheek open, and her lip was swollen and bleeding.

I was seeing red as the guy charged forward to attack, but I didn’t hesitate. He snarled as he swiped the knife at me. I stepped to the side avoiding the blade, and swung him around, my forearm holding his neck in a tight grip.
